Tomorrow – Broken Pieces of Yesterday or a New Beginning?

“Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

What if every new day really could be your best? Every night we would go to sleep anxiously awaiting the dawn, ready to begin anew, eager to experience life better than ever before. But that isn’t real life. Certainly it hasn’t been my experience anyway.

But then again, it would be interesting to understand what determines whether someone considers a day to be good or bad. At the very least, it’s a highly subjective determination, and admittedly, one must recognize that one man’s bad day could indeed be another’s best.

Perhaps we have more say in the matter than first imagined. What if, every night as we prepared to fall asleep, we filled our minds with all the incredible possibilities of what could lie ahead in the day to come rather than replaying the bad parts of today, or the missed opportunities of yesterday?

I imagine that days once at risk for being deemed “bad days” might stand a chance of being the kind of days we would be excited to live. The sheer fact that we get another day is beyond the reach of so many.

“Don’t start your day with the broken pieces of yesterday. Every morning we wake up is the first day of the rest of our life.”

Every day is a chance to begin again more intelligently. Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year. It may be enough to make it so.
