Goodbyes – a Window to the Heart

Goodbyes are a very strange thing.  Sometimes they are a most welcomed event, bringing immediate relief to a night that was ready to end hours earlier.  At other times,  goodbyes are moments of intense anguish and sadness.

If absence makes the heart grow fonder, then goodbyes become a window into our deepest emotions, sometimes revealing a depth of emotion previously unknown.  Saying goodbye is the beginning of absence, and the accompanying sadness is a wonderful reminder of how very fond we are of the person to whom we are saying goodbye.

As Winnie the Pooh said, “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
