“There is a reason the windshield is bigger than the rearview mirror. Your future matters more than your past.” Max Lucado
Sometimes the visual of something helps me internalize a message more than words alone. The image of the windshield and the rearview mirror paints a vivid picture. Imagine driving your car, focused on the rearview mirror instead of the road ahead. In no time you would inevitably crash.
Similarly, if we spend our days obsessed with the past, focused on the pain of yesterday, the misdeeds of others in years gone by, we allow the past to crash our future.
The occasional look in life’s rearview mirror, to draw from the lessons we’ve learned from past experiences, makes sense. But your present and your future will be far better served if you spend the majority of your mind share looking forward not back.
Take life out for a spin and enjoy the road ahead.
