Forget the How, What’s Your Why to Live?

“He who has a why to live for can bear with almost any how.”  Friedrich Nietzsche

We greet each other in passing with the rote words, “How are you doing?” Rarely does anyone answer sincerely.  It’s not expected.  In fact, it’s likely not even welcomed.  It’s a simple pleasantry that yields very little in terms of connection, but within, there’s a hidden truth.  “How” doesn’t really matter all that much.

Despite the fact that we obsess with how we feel, and how we’re doing, and how life would be better if only…, the real question we should be asking ourselves (and each other) is “Why are you living?”

If our “why” is powerful enough, then the circumstances and particulars of life become far less important.  We are able to endure, despite the hardships.  When we lose sight of our true priorities, the why, then we get bogged down with the minutiae of life, and miss what’s most important.
