It’s not a particularly popular point of view to suggest that happiness is ours for the choosing. We prefer to believe it happens to us. And why not? It is circumstance, after all, that brings us happiness. So long as we hold that opinion, it relieves us from all responsibility should we ever find ourselves unhappy.
But if it’s true, that there is light, even in the darkest of times, and further, that we can change the darkness to the light with the flick of a switch, well then, that profoundly changes everything, for we are all capable of turning on a light. The only question is, will you choose to, or will you prefer to remain in the dark?

True. Some lose the battle by not choosing to see the good things present in the midst of dark times. But you are right, without action you never leave the darkness.
