I want my life to sing. Not the shower quality karaoke so many bless the world with every morning as they ready for the day. I want the stuff of legend from the souls of the greats.
Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, opened in 1950 and made history by pressing the first rock & roll single, Rocket 88, by Jackie Brenston & his Delta Cats. However, the moment Sun Studios became a place of legend was when an 18-year-old named Elvis Presley walked through the door to record a song for his mother.
Sun Studios quickly earned a reputation as the place with the unique sound that could inspire and capture the magic. The little recording studio went on to help launch some of the greats, including B.B. King, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Roy Orbison. It was truly remarkable.
In the pursuit of a remarkable life, Sun Studios offers some valuable and applicable lessons:
- Sun was willing to take a risk and do something different, recording music unlike anything being recorded at the time. We need to be willing to do something different from everybody else if we want to live a remarkable life.
- Sun attracted the right kind of people to do something extraordinary. It didn’t happen with one individual alone. We need others to make music, and they need to be the kind of people who will push us to greater heights . Then we too, can accomplish something extraordinary.
- There were many recording studios in Memphis, but these pioneers of rock & roll came to Sun Studios because it was a place of inspiration. To live a remarkable life we need to find a place in the world where our creativity can roar, where we are inspired. Then we will make beautiful music with our lives.
A remarkable life is an inspired life, and an inspired life will sing. Don’t stop searching until you find your inspiration.
