Words to Wander

Words are powerful.  They can inspire and incite, give hope or steal joy.  They can evoke passion or anger, curiosity or fear.  Spoken words can stir our emotions, but eventually dissipate over time as memories fade. But the written word lives on forever.

If one were to read every moment of every day, every year for the rest of time, only a drop in the ocean of literature would be consumed.  Every second, all around the world, new thoughts pour onto pages from the minds of countless writers, each expressing their thoughts and ideas.  Many of those words will never find an audience.

This post will begin a new addition to the 364life blog, Words to Wander.  The hope is to  share some of the notable passages from some of my favorite books. In the pursuit of a remarkable life, the importance of books can’t be overstated.  Much of the richness of life is experienced between the covers of a wonderful book.

I’ll add to Words to Wander regularly and would love to hear your thoughts on what’s shared, as well as have you share some of the notable quotes you’ve encountered in your reading adventures.  As a simple beginning, here are some of my favorite quotations on reading.  Enjoy!

“Books can be dangerous.  The best ones should be labeled, This could change your life.”  Helen Exley

“Books are a uniquely portable magic.”  Stephen King

“There is no friend as loyal as a book.”  Ernest Hemingway

“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading!  How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book!”  Jane Austen

“The more that you read, the more things you will know.  The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”  Dr. Seuss

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies… the man who never reads lives only one.”  George R. R. Martin

“A book is a dream that you hold in your hand.”  Neil Gaiman

“So many books, so little time.”  Frank Zappa
